On December 18, another meeting from the series of discussions Democracy Dialogues was held at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. Contemporary Literature and the Transformation of Values was the main topic of the discussion.
Before the discussion, Kakhaber Uriadmkopeli, moderator of the meeting and the lecturer of GAU, briefly informed the audience about the activities of CELA. Mari Korinteli, editor and founder of the publishing house Books in Batumi was the guest speaker of the meeting. She gave a speech about the correlation of different epochs and literature and emphasized the main theme of contemporary literature. Turns out, literature keeps up with the problems and the challenges of the epoch.
Equality and tolerance were named as the main challenges of contemporary literature. Predominating topics are women's rights, problems of persons with disabilities, homophobia, etc. The guest-speaker emphasized the work of modern Georgian authors as well as the expediency of the so-called Children's literature.
The meeting was held in a question-answer format. There was a discussion on the abovementioned challenges, especially on the gender equality issues.
