On November 10, 2014, the Civic Education Lecturers Association (CELA) conducted a training titled, “Democracy and Human Rights” for 40 youth in the rural Adjaran town of Khelvachauri.
The training was facilitated by CELA member and lecturer at Batumi’s Shota Rustaveli State University Zurab Kvirkvaia, and covered the essence, principles and stages of democracy; the consolidation of democracy in Georgia; human rights and ways to defend one’s rights; as well as the concept and key principles of good governance.
The training, incorporating theoretical and interactive components, familiarized youth with their rights and freedoms, as well as with the tools that are available at their disposal to protect key democratic principles.
