Within the framework of the project ‘’Civic Engagement School 2021’’ Shota Meskhia State Teaching University students: Tedo Bigvava, Ana Abuladze, Khatia Lashkhia, and Onise Buliskiria successfully implemented action project ‘’Socialization Problems of Persons with Disabilities’’ which aimed to raise awareness of young people about people with disabilities.
To achieved the aim of the project a number of activities were carried out. The training was conducted by ‘’Transparency International Georgia’’ executive director Ekaterine Gigauri and Zugdidi regional coordinator Archil Todua. Issues of civic responsibility, activism, and engagement of persons with disabilities in civic activism were discussed at the training.
Within the framework of the project, a meeting was held with Violeta Khurtsia, the founder of the youth organization ‘’New Vision’’, who spoke about her own experience, what problems people with disabilities face during socialization.
A video story was recorded, which discuss the following topics: what opportunities and programs do the local municipality offer to the persons with disabilities, to what extent is the local higher education adapted and to what extent can it provide quality education for people with disabilities. The video also includes interviews with people with disabilities in which they talk about their experiences. Discussion of the video story was held at the final event of the project, which summarized the implemented activities and results.
Each training and meeting included role-plays, discussions, and active question-and-answer modes.
