On June 6-7, the Civic Education Lecturers Association (CELA) hosted an international academic conference at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University on “Citizenship and Civic Education in Post-Socialist Societies.”
Academics and researchers from Georgia, Russia, Armenia, Hungary, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Poland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and Kazakhstan joined the discussion that covered: the concept of citizenship and civic values after the dissolution of the Soviet Union; developing and implementing a civic education policy; state building and the development of civil society; best practices and challenges related to civic education and engagement.
This event was organized in the framework of the Strengthening Electoral Processes (SEP) in Georgia project, conducted by IFES, and made possible by the support of the American People through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
