On April 5, students of the Democracy and Citizenship university course presented their action plan projects at St. Andrew the First-Called Georgian University of the Patriarchate of Georgia. Presented projects were prepared by students in the autumn semester of 2015-2016 academic year.
At the opening of the presentation Tamar Karaia, executive director of Civic Education Lecturers Association and Nermin Nisic, IFES-Georgia, chief of party addressed participants and discussed the importance of the Democracy and Citizenship university course and the value of civil activism.
The students of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Sulkhan-Saba Teaching University and Georgian-American University presented their projects. The projects were concerned with the the urgent and topical issues of Georgian society such as: rising awareness of civic education among ethnic minorities, their integration in university sphere, eliminating violence in schools, blood donation, environmental problems, rights of persons with disabilities, etc.
The projects aimed to raise public awareness, provide truthful information to our society and increase citizens’ participation in the country's social and political life.
Students from Akaki Tsereteli State University and Kutaisi State University were able to participate in the event via video bridge.
The presentation was held by CELA and made possible with the support of USAID in the framework of the project Strengthening Electoral Processes (SEP), implemented by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).
