On September 29, students of the Democracy and Citizenship university course presented their action projects at “Sulkhan-Saba Teaching University”. Presented projects were prepared by students in the spring semester of 2014-2015 academic year.
The executive director of the Civic Education Lecturers Association, Tamar Karaia discussed the importance of the course with the students and pointed out that the main goal of the course is to help students to become worthy and active citizens of the democratic country, which is so necessary for our country.
The students of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and Akaki Tsereteli Kutaisi State University presented their projects. The projects were concerned with the diverse and very important issues and challenges for our society and aimed to raise public awareness, provide truthful information to our society and increase citizens’ participation in the country's social and political life. Topics like protection of the cultural heritage, adaptation of media space for hearing –impaired people, literacy promotion, etc were specially emphasized.
Regional partner universities were able to participate in the event via video bridge. The students tried to share their experiences gained by making the projects with their peers.
The event was attended by the members of the Union of the Deaf of Georgia and as the result of collaboration between the Union and students, the event offered sign language interpretation.
Presentation was held by the Civic Education Lecturers Association with the financial support of USAID in the framework of the project Strengthening Electoral Processes (SEP), implemented by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).
