On September 30, presentation of the first issue of the scientific journal “Civic Education Review” was held in the administrative building of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. The event was attended by the university students, authors of publications and the members of the “Civic Education Lecturers Association”.
The editor of the journal and Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University professor Malkhaz Matsaberidze expatiated about the journal’s scientific importance and mission. He noted, that “Civic Education Review” is, in fact, the first academic journal in the sphere of Civic Education. Through this journal, researchers are given the opportunity to be involved in scientific activities and share their research results to academic community. According to the editor of the journal, the main goal of the civic education is to raise civic awareness. Active Citizenship is possible not only with political participation, but with community service too. Community service is expressed in educational activities, as well as, in promotional activities for raising civic awareness.
“In scientific-education sphere, it’s very important for researchers to present the results of the surveys in an authoritative journal. Before placing in the journal, the article is strictly reviewed and which, of course, is important determinant of quality of the journal. The criteria for acceptance of the articles are based on the academic importance and the quality of the article” - said Malkhaz Matsaberidze.
During the presentation, the authors of the articles made their speeches and represented their own research results. The first issue of the journal “Civic Education Review” is very interesting and covers a wide variety of themes, including division of powers and the importance of political balance, elections and electoral systems, e-government in local self-governments, women’s political participation in Georgia, etc.
At the end of the presentation, the executive director of the Civic Education Lecturers Association, Tamar Karaia delivered a talk about the necessity of scientific journal at the university and expressed the hope that publishing of the journal will continue, it will maintain the high scientific quality and Georgian academic readers will have an opportunity to read number of interesting scientific publications.
The executive director of “CELA” expressed her gratitude to the audience, to the authors of the articles as well as to foreign donors and noted, that the publishing of the scientific journal was possible by the support of the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in the framework of the project Strengthening Electoral Processes, implemented by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).
