Call for Abstracts for the Third Scientific Conference for Students - Civic Engagement in Georgia

The Civic Education Lecturers Association announces the call for abstracts for students’ third scientific conference on the theme of Civic Engagement in Georgia.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the promotion of civic participation has been regarded as one of the main challenges, while the development of political culture has been approached by some as a precondition for the progress of society. In this regard, analyzing the changes, possible achievements, and challenges in this direction in Georgia since the restoration of the country’s independence for 23 years is of utmost importance. 

 

Conference Main Themes:

• Democratic institutions and local self-government
• Civic Education
• Civil Society and Citizen/Civic Participation
• The concept of “Open Government” - limiting power, accountability, and transparency
• Elections and high voter turnout
• Social capital
• Youth Engagement/Activism and Volunteering
• Minority integration
• The role of traditional and social media
• Other


The conference is open to all students interested in related topics and, particularly, those who have been studying a civic education course on Democracy and Citizenship. 

 

In order to be considered, please submit your CV and an abstract to the following email: info@cela.ge by November 23, 2015.  In the subject line of the e-mail, please put “Civic Engagement in Georgia”

 

Late submissions will not be considered.
The working language of the conference will be Georgian.
Please, email your abstracts (minimum 300 words - maximum 500 words) in Microsoft Word (.doc) format. Those selected for participation will be notified by November 28, 2015.  
The conference will be held on December 19, 2015.
