The first issue of "CIVICUS" is about volunteering, as one of the main indicators for the development of civil society. Here you will be introduced to people who tried to change others’ lives for the better. That was the main purpose of their civic activism. The current situation in Georgia in terms of volunteering, first steps for building civil society and other topics will be discussed in this issue of CIVICUS. The authors seek to answer the following questions: What is the role of volunteering in the process of forming a democratic society? What are the obstacles for it? Why should we measure the volunteerism? What is its economic benefit? How can we activate young people by Facebook?
